There are a several ways you can export your ChatGPT conversation history data if you don't want to your AI agent memory only lives in OpenAI database:

1. Use ChatGPT’s Built-In Export Feature (All Conversations)

This is the official and most complete way to export all your ChatGPT conversations and data.

Step 1 — Sign In

• Open ChatGPT in your browser at https://chat.openai.com and sign in.

Step 2 — Open Settings

• Click your profile icon in the bottom left.

• Choose Settings.

Step 3 — Go to Data Controls

• In Settings, click Data Controls (may also be labeled Privacy or Export Data).

Step 4 — Start Export

• Under Export Data, click Export.

• Confirm when prompted.

Step 5 — Check Your Email

• OpenAI will email you a download link containing your data.

• The link typically expires after 24 hours.

Step 6 — Download & Unzip

• Open the email and click Download Data Export.

• You’ll receive a ZIP file with:

  • A chat.html version of your chats

  • A JSON file with structured data (timestamps, IDs, etc.)

Notes:

• Export links expire. So download within the time window

• JSON export includes extra metadata like timestamps and message IDs

2. Export an Individual Chat (Manual Methods)

If you just want one conversation (not all chats):

Manual Copy-Paste

• Open the chat you want.

• Press Ctrl +A (Windows) or Cmd +A (Mac) to select all.

• Copy & paste into Word, Docs, Notepad, etc.

Print to PDF

• With the chat open, press Ctrl P (Windows) or Cmd P (Mac).

• In print options, choose Save as PDF.

• Save the file

3. Tools & Extensions

These are the most easy way to do it if you don't want to deal with json file format. We know that gives people headache:
